Joe Klein has it right about McCain’s remark that Obama “would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.”
Not only is this deeply unpresidential, it is obviously and completely untrue. Even the logic behind the assertion (that because Obama didn’t support the surge he wants to lose) is absurd.
John McCain is going to have to realize that we’ve won militarily in Iraq and the American people still don’t want him to be president. It’s because they know the war was wrong in the first place, and that the remaining problems in Iraq can’t be fixed by our troops. It’s as though he has convinced himself that if he can just make people realize he was right about the surge, they’ll vote for him.
John, we know you were right about the surge. You’re just wrong about everything else.
And P.S., just because the surge worked (in conjunction with Petraeus’s strategy and some good luck), doesn’t mean Obama’s plan wouldn’t have worked too. The American people are not as stupid as you would like to believe.
